CLEANUP AND PLOGGING

"Cleanliness is not just a virtue, but a habit that yields manifold benefits for society and the environment"- Mahatma Gandhi

Recognizing the urgency of tackling littering and waste management, Tears of the Earth Foundation (TOE) has been leading cleanup drives and plogging initiatives across Indian cities. With rapid urbanization, India faces immense waste management challenges, generating staggering amounts of plastic waste—Delhi alone produces over 9,000 metric tons daily, much of which pollutes landfills and water bodies.

Despite efforts like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, poor waste segregation and inadequate disposal infrastructure exacerbate the problem. TOE addresses these issues by organizing cleanup drives in parks, streets, lakes, and rivers, engaging individuals, corporates, and municipalities to take collective action.

The drives begin with short, informative sessions on waste segregation, the impact of plastic pollution, and the importance of cleanliness. Equipped with reusable gloves and bags, participants collect and separate recyclable materials, ensuring proper disposal through TOE's partner organizations. This fosters responsibility while reducing waste in landfills and habitats.

TOE collaborates with municipalities, government bodies, and companies to expand these efforts. By integrating cleanup drives into CSR programs, companies engage employees in meaningful environmental action while cultivating a culture of social responsibility.

These drives not only restore public spaces but also promote health and well-being by encouraging outdoor activities in cleaner surroundings. Participants even receive eco-friendly goods as a token of appreciation. Join TOE and do your part for a healthier planet!

Structure Plan for Clean-Up Drive:

1: Determining Specific Areas and Goals

  • Identify the neighborhood area near the partner's location for cleanup.

  • Set clear goals for the cleanup, such as how much trash must be collected and what area needs to be covered.

  • Set the date and time of the Cleanup

2: Team Formation and tasks:

  • Form teams consisting of a minimum of 3 participants in each.

  • Assign experienced team leaders who have previously participated in cleanliness campaigns and are knowledgeable about waste collection and safety management to observe half the participants.

3: Safety Measures

  • Conduct safety training sessions to educate participants on proper waste handling and potential hazards.

  • Provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including gloves, masks, and/or trash pickers.

  • Ensure the availability of a first aid kit for emergencies.
